Jose Mourinho and Tottenham handed huge Tanguy Ndombele boost ahead of Norwich clash

Jose Mourinho has been boosted by the news that Tanguy Ndombele has returned to first team training.

Spurs have had problems in the midfield for the past month, with Moussa Sissoko and Ndombele both out of action since the New Year's Day defeat to Southampton.

Gedson Fernandes was brought in on an 18-month loan deal from Benfica and made his first appearance during the 0-0 draw with Watford on Saturday.

Harry Winks has been played in the centre of midfield in the last two Premier League games against Liverpool and Watford with Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso utilised alongside him at various points over the course of the two matches.

But Ndombele has handed Mourinho a huge boost ahead of the midweek clash with struggling Norwich City by returning to training.

In an injury update ahead of the Portuguese boss' press conference prior to the midweek clash, Spurs confirmed the news that the Freance midfielder was in training with the rest of the squad.

Ndombele has been a frustration for Mourinho and the Spurs fans since his big-money move from Lyon in the summer.

But Mourinho is hopeful that Ndombele will be fit to play against the Canaries.

He said: "I hope [he will be fit to play a run of games]. When you look at when he played, he offers us something we need.

"Last week he worked one-on-one with a fitness coach to bring his level up before joining the group. Hopefully he can give us something tomorrow."

The injury update also confirmed that Ben Davies (ankle), Harry Kane (hamstring) and Moussa Sissoko (knee) all remained sidelined.

Captain Hugo Lloris returned to training last week and could be in line for a place in the squad.
