Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola's nightmare scenarios ahead of Tottenham vs Man City final

The 2020/21 Carabao Cup final has been set.

Tottenham Hotspur will face Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 25 April 2021 after both teams recorded 2-0 wins over Brentford and Manchester United respectively in the semi-final.

This season's final was originally slated to take place on Sunday 28 February 2021, but ahead of the quarter-final ties last month, it was revealed that there had been a change.

A reason for the final date change is to allow as many supporters as possible inside the national stadium, but much will depend on the Government's guidance come April.

Jose Mourinho: Taking the League Cup seriously is the secret of my success

A statement via the EFL website reads: "This season’s Carabao Cup Final has been rescheduled and will now take place on Sunday 25 April 2021, with a 4pm kick-off.

"It is the objective of the League to stage the Final with as many supporters in attendance as possible and the decision has therefore been taken to move the Final from its original date of Sunday 28 February 2021 to later in the year."

While moving the date opens up the possibility of fans being present inside Wembley, it does cause a problem for both clubs.

And for Man City, Pep Guardiola is facing somewhat of a nightmare scenario despite the final still being well over three months away.

Depending on City's success in the FA Cup and the Champions League between now and April, their fixture schedule could be very hectic.

As revealed by ESPN 's Dale Johnson, City will have to play every midweek between now and the end of the Premier League season should they reach the FA Cup final and Champions League semi-final.

In terms of keeping his players fresh, Guardiola simply won't be afforded that luxury and that could play into Spurs' favour come the Carabao Cup final.

With that said, Jose Mourinho's side could be in a similar position if they go deep in the FA Cup as well as the Europa League.

Reacting to setting up a final against Spurs, Guardiola said there's more than enough time to think about the big game.

"It’s not next week, the game, so we’ll see," he told Sky Sports. "We want to arrive in the final in the best shape possible.

"Of course, Tottenham are a top, top team but we have some time to think about it.”
