Fresh on the back of Champions League success with Chelsea, Jorginho is enjoying the best moments of his career anchoring an Italian side who are quickly becoming the favourites at Euro 2020.
The Italian midfielder has produced some stellar performances, most recently during Italy’s 1-0 victory over Wales and has even attracted the attention of a host of clubs across Europe, according to his agent.
But if we cast our mind back to a few years prior, things were not as smooth for the 29-year-old midfielder.
Having arrived at Chelsea in a £50million deal in 2018, Jorginho struggled to adapt to the English Premier League and at times appeared he could not cope under the weight of expectations.
Jorginho had excelled under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli and many expected him to do the same at Chelsea.
After his first season at Chelsea, not many had faith the Italian would ever reach those heights.
Except for Jose Mourinho.
Speaking to BeinSport in May 2019, the former Chelsea manager waxed lyrical about the midfielder.
“For me, Jorginho is the best midfielder in Europe," said Mourinho.
"He has a quality that no-one else has: the way he controls the game, how he recovers the ball in transition and how he can withstand the pressure. I don’t see others like him around.”
More recently, in May of this year, Pep Guardiola also showered Jorginho with praise - and not for the first time. Having thought he had signed the Italian for Manchester City before his switch to Chelsea, Guardiola's eye for talent was clearly spot on.
That was reinforced by his comments last month.
“Few, few players can do what he does," Guardiola said on Jorginho. "Few players all around the world. He can do virtually everything. English football has an exceptional holding midfielder."
Having now lifted the Europa League and the Champions League and potentially about to go all the way to the final of the European Championship, not many would argue with the assessments of the midfielder now.
The icing on the cake now would be to lift the Premier League too.
Only time will tell whether Jorginho will stick around to do it next season.
