Mourinho and Guardiola cannot complain about Liverpool and Champions League fixtures this time

Two seasons ago, Jose Mourinho was said to have been 'angered' by it.

And last term, Pep Guardiola might not have been best pleased either.

Back in 2018/19 when the Premier League fixture list was revealed, it turned out Liverpool had six domestic home games following their six Champions League group stage matches.

And in 2019/20, Liverpool had five home matches after their European group ties. That compared to three home games for Manchester City.

But how has it gone this time around?

The Reds will find out their Champions League group stage opponents later today when the draw takes place from 5pm.

But the matchdays for the competition are already clear:

Matchday one: October 20/21
Matchday two: October 27/28
Matchday three: November 3/4
Matchday four: November 24/25
Matchday five: December 1/2
Matchday six: December 8/9

For this campaign, however, there can be no real cause from complaint from either title rival.

Both Liverpool and City have three home games and three away games after their Champions League group ties.

And there is even a clash between the two teams - at the Etihad - several days after European action.

While City may be pleased that encounter is at home, they face a trip to Old Trafford after their final group stage clash.

Liverpool fixtures after Champions League games

The dates above are approximate at this stage, given fixtures will likely be tweaked for TV timings.

Liverpool will be in Pot 1 for the Champions League draw this evening.

That means the Reds will be in a group with one of these sides from Pot 2: Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax.
