Jose Mourinho's confrontation with Paul Pogba at Manchester United training was centred on a social media post, though the matter has now been amicably resolved.
Mourinho and Pogba were caught by Sky Sports television cameras sharing a tense exchange at United’s Carrington training ground on Wednesday morning.
Pogba had watched United’s surprise EFL Cup defeat to Derby County on Tuesday from the Old Trafford stands, having been stripped of the vice-captaincy by Mourinho hours earlier.
While watching the game, the midfielder recorded an Instagram video which showed him laughing and joking with team-mates Luke Shaw and Andreas Pereira.
However, due to an intermittent Wi-Fi network at Old Trafford, the post was only published around half an hour after United’s defeat was confirmed.
Mourinho is seen to confront Pogba about the video in the Sky Sports footage, in an attempt to establish whether he was making light of the Derby result in the video.
However, the United manager is understood to be satisfied with his midfielder’s explanation of events and the matter is now considered to have been settled.
Pogba was ‘rested’ for the shoot-out defeat to Derby following his thinly-veiled criticism of Mourinho’s approach to last Saturday’s draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Mourinho confirmed on Tuesday night that Pogba would no longer skipper United in the absence of club captain Antonio Valencia after his calls for the team to ‘attack, attack, attack’.
