Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy told how to handle Rose exile as Tottenham title talk is dismissed

Good morning, Tottenham fans. Here is your morning digest for Sunday, October 25.

Levy and Mourinho sent Rose transfer message

Tottenham Hotspur should terminate Danny Rose's contract even if it means providing him with a hefty payout, according to former England defender Danny Mills.

The Spurs full-back has been on the fringes of the first-team since Jose Mourinho arrived at the club, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle United.

His return to the club has not brought with it a fresh start and asked if Rose may never play for Spurs again, Mills told Football Insider: "Never say never in football but it’s highly unlikely.

Mourinho post-match press conference after Spurs beat LASK

"I really don’t see that happening. I think his time is up I would say at Tottenham, it doesn’t look like there’s anywhere else for him to go in effect.

“It’s a shame but it does happen from time to time. If you’re not involved in the Premier League squad and you’ve not got long left to run on your deal then what is the point in keeping that player there?" he said.

“You can’t use him, it just becomes a pain as much as anything else. There has to come a point where you have to bite the bullet, do a deal, and move them on.

Spurs title talk dismissed by Merson

Paul Merson doesn't believe Tottenham's defence is good enough for the club to challenge for the Premier League title this term.

Spurs find themselves on eight points after five games, the same number as title hopefuls Manchester City.

But Merson remains skeptical of their Tottenham's chances this season, citing the 3-3 draw against West Ham as a major factor behind that assessment.

"I was watching a different game, Merson said on Sky Sports. "I thought Tottenham took their foot off the pedal.

"I think the first goal is bad marking, the second goal - the own goal just went under the carpet.

"It's atrocious defending - the own goal, to score a header like that. And the last goal Aurier gives away the most pointless free-kick I've ever seen in the history of football on the touchline and no one has mentioned Harry Winks.

"Why doesn't he just boot the ball up the pitch? He's trying to beat a player on the edge of the box. I didn't think Tottenham were that great, after 30 seconds West Ham had half a chance, had a shot and then for about 15 minutes they blew them away.

"But second half I thought West Ham really done well. They got the goal late and the shackles came off. I was really disappointed in Tottenham and the way they let it go. A Mourinho team

"Last week we were talking like this team has got a chance of winning the league. I see enough in that 10 minutes to go as far as to say absolutely zero chance."

Mourinho reveals Son contract desire

Jose Mourinho has admitted. he would "love" Son Heung-min to agree to a new long-term deal with Tottenham.

Spurs are keen to extend Son’s contract and tie him down to a new bumper deal at the club, and those sentiments have been echoed by his manager.

"I would love that. Son has three years of contract so it's not like we're in an extreme situation of everybody being worried. It's more that Son loves it here, I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time," he said.

"Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy and is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture.

"It's normal the club tries to go from three years to four or five or six, I don't know. It's normal, but it's a very calm situation because Sonny has three more years of contract.

"I wish [for him to get a new contract]. He deserves one. The club knows that and sooner or later, without any pressure, they will arrive into a decision."
