Jose Mourinho aims sly dig at Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes over diving claim

Jose Mourinho aimed a sly dig at Bruno Fernandes after he went down a little too easily in Tottenham's draw with Manchester United.

The Red Devils won two penalties against Spurs on Friday night, but one was overturned following a VAR check.

Replays showed that Fernandes went down too easily following a slight collision with Eric Dier, who had already conceded a penalty when fouling Paul Pogba.

Mourinho was asked for his thoughts on Fernandes going to ground following the match, which finished 1-1.

The Portuguese suggested he knew exactly what the midfielder was up to in trying to win a spot-kick, saying: "Fernandes comes from a country that I know well."

He later added that Fernandes should have been booked: "The second one [penalty] was incredible for me. If VAR goes for simulation, the players could be exposed and given a yellow card. I feel really upset with these two decisions."

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy heaped praise on Fernandes' performance against Spurs, and pointed out the way he pulls the strings for United.

However, he added that the midfielder needs to remove diving from his game.

"Bruno Fernandes was the best player on the pitch for Manchester United against Tottenham on Friday," Murphy told the Daily Mail.

"But if you hate diving with a passion like I do, he has to be called out for conning referee Jonathan Moss by leaning into Eric Dier and then falling over."
