Jose Mourinho aims 'nobody crying' dig at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has aimed a dig at Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp over complaints regarding the fixture list.

Klopp has been hugely critical of the intense schedule imposed on top-level players this season which he believes has contributed to his team's lengthy injury list.

Tottenham were forced to play four games inside eight days earlier in the campaign due to Europa League and Carabao Cup commitments.

And Mourinho has claimed his Premier League rivals - including Klopp - demonstrated little sympathy at the time.

“By the way, we played four matches in one week and nobody was crying or supporting us about it," said the Portuguese.

"And now my colleagues, when do they play these matches?”

It's not the first time Mourinho has fired a warning at Klopp, having last month responded to the Reds boss urging change among the programme.

"Klopp arrived by 2015," said the Tottenham boss. "I arrived in 2004 so what he knows from 2015, I know since 2004.

"And nothing changes. We have to adapt to it and that's the way it is."

Both Liverpool and Tottenham - who are separated only by goal difference at the top of the table - will benefit from the return of 2,000 fans inside their home stadium this weekend, although half of the Premier League clubs are still unable to welcome back supporters due to regional coronavirus restrictions.

This has left several managers unhappy at what they believe is an unfair advantage for others.

And Mourinho added: "I can understand their position but at the same time the situation is so difficult and so frustrating for everybody that I believe we have to accept all these things for the good of football, the good of people’s happiness and the perspective of ‘this is going to change for the better'.

"For me, we have to accept and adapt.”
