Jose Mourinho accuses VAR of "having cup of tea" after missing Andy Robertson red

Jose Mourinho has claimed VAR missed a red card for Andy Robertson because they were "having a cup of tea".

The Tottenham boss was speaking after his side had narrowly lost 1-0 to Liverpool in north London.

But he was fully of praise for his side and reckons the Reds should've been down to ten men following the Scotsman's tackle.

Robertson over ran the ball and dived in on Japhet Tanganga - a tackle that was very similar to one Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was sent off for earlier in the day.

"They could have conceded a goal and got a red card for Robertson's challenge," Mourinho said after the game.

VAR has had a huge influence over proceedings since its introduction at the start of the season, but the men at Stockley Park failed to even check whether the Liverpool man was guilty of a red card offence.

Mourinho did claimed the Reds were "lucky" to have left with all three points after their goal came from a throw-in that should've been awarded to the home team.

"Yesterday we spent half an hour defending throw-ins and we lost the game on the throw-in," he added.

"I think the refs did a very good job, but the assistant on the opposite side didn’t see that Mane touched the ball [in the build-up to the goal].

Nevertheless he was keen to remind people that he predicted Liverpool's dominance several months ago when they saw off Manchester City at Anfield.

The Reds now have a 16 point lead at the top of the Premier League and look set to end their three decade wait for a league title.

"I told you they would win the league when they beat Manchester City three or four months ago," he continued.

Mourinho was also full of praise for defender Tanganga - who made his debut against the Reds - claiming that everyone should be "proud" of the 20-year-old.

"I think everybody at the club has to be proud of him," he added.

"That’s what Tottenham does and has to do when we feel it’s the right player and the right occasion. It was the perfect occasion for him."
