Jose Mourinho accepts Tottenham fitness session with Tanguy Ndombele went against coronavirus guidelines

Jose Mourinho has accepted that he did not act in line with government guidelines on social distancing by training with Tanguy Ndombele on Tuesday.

The Tottenham manager did not apologise, but urged everyone to follow the official advice "in order to support our heroes in the NHS and save lives".

Mourinho was pictured on Hadley Common in Barnet with club-record signing Ndombele, having arranged a one-on-one session with the Frenchman who has struggled for fitness since joining the club for £55m last summer.

"I accept that my actions were not in line with government protocol and we must only have contact with members of our own household," the Portuguese said.

"It is vital we all play our part and follow government advice in order to support our heroes in the NHS and save lives."

An image posted on Twitter showed Mourinho, wearing his distinctive purple Spurs training kit, and Ndombele with two members of the public, who had seemingly joined the session.

Also on Tuesday, footage emerged of Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon - who live in the same local complex as Ndombele - jogging side-by-side in the area, while Serge Aurier posted footage on social media of himself running beside a friend.

Official government advice during the coronavirus pandemic is that all individuals should keep at least two metres apart at all times, and exercise outdoors can only be undertaken with one other person from your own household.

Mourinho was spoken to by a senior official at the club, while a Spurs spokesperson said: "All of our players have been reminded to respect social distancing when exercising outdoors. We shall continue to reinforce this message."
