'Jose Mourinho 2.0' - Manchester United fans say same thing as Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham

Manchester United fans believe the Reds dodged a bullet by not appointing Antonio Conte.

The Italian manager was out of work when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was nearing the end of his United tenure and pundits like Jamie Carragher claimed that the Reds should have made a move for the former Chelsea boss. However, by the time Solskjaer was sacked Conte had been appointed by Tottenham.

Conte led Spurs to the top four in 2021/22 but this season has been more of a struggle. Defeats to Sheffield United in the FA Cup and AC Milan in the Champions League last-16 have ended any hopes of silverware this term.

Following a disappointing 3-3 draw at Southampton, the Italian boss slammed his players having already deemed his side not good enough to compete with the big teams. Under Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, United have progressed massively.

In February, the Reds won the Carabao Cup and they are still challenging for the Europa League and FA Cup going into the latter stages of the season. To justify United's decision further, Spurs announced on Sunday evening that Conte had departed the club.

In a statement, chairman Daniel Levy wrote: "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together.

"Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our club and amazing, loyal supporters." Upon hearing the news, United fans took to Twitter to share their delight that their club opted not to appoint Conte back in 2021.
