Jose Fonte sends Sven Botman transfer message to Liverpool

Former West Ham United defender Jose Fonte says he is 'always happy to help' after Lille team-mate Sven Botman was linked with a transfer to Liverpool.

Botman, 20, has the highest duel success rate in Ligue 1 this season after arriving in France from Ajax for £8m in the summer.

Liverpool lost Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries earlier in the campaign and have subsequently been touted with a move for the Dutch youth international as Fonte teased supporters on social media.

Take our 30-second Liverpool transfer survey and let us know what Jurgen Klopp needs to do in the January window.

The account Squawka Football posted an image of Botman accompanied by the caption: "[Fonte] could be losing another centre-back partner to the Premier League soon," after Gabriel joined Arsenal from Lille in the previous transfer window.

Fonte replied: "Another one....Always happy to help."

Fonte arrived at Lille in 2018 after a short spell in China with Dalian Yifang. He had previously represented Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham United in England.

The Portuguese international played alongside Van Dijk at Southampton.
