Jose Enrique explains why special Liverpool success isn't 'just down to just club and players'

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has recalled his 'incredible' time at Anfield, when lifting the lid on aspects of his career.

The former full-back, who is now an agent after retiring from playing, spent five years on Merseyside after initially making an impression in the Premier League with Newcastle United.

However, injury issues plagued his stint with the club, as he accumulated just 76 league appearances, but his time in the city left a lasting impression.

"I have a special way with Liverpool because of the way the club treated me, I was speaking English really well when I was there, my time there was unbelievable," he told BBC 5Live.

"I met my partner there, I made so many friends there, so many people in the club I can call friends and they still text me. It was the best time in my life football-wise.

"It was really nice. We nearly won the league, it was the year I got injured as well so I wasn't happy about that because maybe I could have helped the team, but Jon Flanagan looked like Roberto Carlos that season! I don't think they missed me too much that season, he was on fire.

"I have a special feeling for Liverpool, they are a top club. The fans are incredible, it's unbelievable. What they are doing isn't just because of the club and the players, it's because everything is good, hard work around there."
