Jose Antonio Reyes is reportedly set to join Unai Emery’s coaching staff at Arsenal, according to Spanish sports paper Estadio Deportivo.
The Spanish winger, who spent three years at Arsenal from 2003-2006, recently abandoned a brief spell playing in the Chinese second division for Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard and was spotted in London where he is reported to have been signing his contract at The Emirates.
It’s believed that Reyes’ role will centre around motivating the squad, with Emery insisting that the club add the Invincibles member to his Spanish contingent of backroom staff.
Reyes scored 16 goals in 69 appearances for Arsenal, but his time in North London was blighted by injury and homesickness, and he returned to Spain originally joining Real Madrid on loan before switching permanently to city rivals Atletico.
Entering the twilight of his career having rejoined boyhood club Seville in 2012, Emery is credited with restoring Reyes’ confidence and the pair are said to have developed a strong bong as the 35-year-old became an integral member of the manager’s Europa League winning sides.
