Jose Antonio Reyes' father pays emotional tribute to the late Arsenal star

The father of former Arsenal star Jose Antonio Reyes has stated that life 'doesn't make sense' following the death of the former Spain international.

35-year-old Reyes , who also represented Sevilla, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid during his career, died following a car crash in Spain back in June, where his cousin Jonathan was a second fatality.

The death rocked football and Reyes' family understandably continue to struggle with their loss, as his father Francisco told Spanish television channel Telecino on their 'Viva la Vida' broadcast.

"When we are alone all we do is cry. We do not even speak because if we say something to each other, it is about something that makes us cry.

"His mother does not even go to the doorstep. We knew it would be hard, but not this hard. My wife goes from bed to the sofa and from the sofa to bed. We would like to know where to get our strength from.

"We cannot say things to each other because if we say or do or see something we think about how he used to say and do things.

"How do we think we are going to move forward? That is what we would like to know. The problem is our lives do not make sense anymore."

Reyes signed for Arsenal for £15m during the 'Invincibles' campaign in 2003-04 for a club-record fee, having made the breakthrough at hometown club Sevilla - with his debut coming at the age of just 16.

During his time in North London, he become the first Spaniard to win the Premier League, while he also tasted victory in the FA Cup and Community Shield.

He earned 21 Spain caps during his career, as well as lifting the Europa League on three occasions with Sevilla and twice with Atletico Madrid.
