Jose Antonio Reyes dead: Former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward dies in car crash, aged 35

Former Arsenal and Real Madrid player Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a car crash, aged 35.

Spanish newspaper Marca report the Reyes was involved in a traffic collision on Saturday morning in his hometown of Utrera, a province of Seville.

Reyes came through the ranks at Sevilla, becoming the youngest player to make a first-team appearance for the club when 16 years old in 2000.

He moved to Arsenal just under four years later - now a full Spain international - for a deal rising to £17 million. He played 13 times as the Gunners famously finished the Premier League season unbeaten.

Reyes went on to make over 100 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 23 goals, while winning the Premier League and FA Cup during a two-year spell.

His final appearance for the Gunners was the Champions League final loss to Barcelona in 2006 before moving to Real Madrid on loan, where he won La Liga.

Reyes won the Europa League, previously known at the Uefa Cup, five times, twice with Atletico Madrid before returning to Sevilla for three back-to-back triumphs.

The former winger saw out his playing career in the Spanish lower leagues, and a brief spell in China.

He last played for Spanish second division side Extremadura UD on May 18 after signing a five-month contract in January.
