Former Arsenal star Jose Antonio Reyes has died at the age of 35 after a traffic collision.

Another of his former clubs, Sevilla, confirmed the news on social media.

Reyes spent the last five months of the season at Spanish lower league side Extremadura MD.

A tweet from Sevilla said: "We couldn't be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace."

Espanyol, who Reyes spent a year with, also tweeted: "Today is a very sad day for the whole Perica family. Our ex-player Jose Antonio Ryes has died. From RCD Espanyol in Barcelona we wish to express our heartfelt condolences and to transfer all our support to the family and to Sevilla."

Reyes played more than 100 times for Arsenal over three seasons from 2004 to 2007. He also won the Premier League title and spent a year on loan at Real Madrid. He left the club to join Atletic Madrid after starting his career at Sevilla.

He then returned to his boyhood club for a four year spell in 2012 and also earned 21 caps for Spain.
