It might’ve been Dylan Cease’s momentous day, but the offense took center stage in the Sox’s 9-6 victory against the Tigers in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
The White Sox hit five home runs, including Jose Abreu’s walk-off three-run blast, his 20th of the season, in the 12th inning.
Center fielder Ryan Cordell had a solo blast to center field in the fifth and a two-run shot in the seventh.
Third baseman Yoan Moncada became only the 10th Sox player in franchise history to go yard from both sides of the plate in a single game. He got the Sox on the board in the first inning with a solo homer, and then Moncada, who tied the game in seventh with a sacrifice fly, struck a game-tying blast in the 10th.
Cordell also came in clutch on defense in the fourth inning when he made a leaping catch at the center-field wall to steal a home run from Tigers center fielder Harold Castro.
After the thrilling win, the Sox optioned right-hander Carson Fulmer to Class AAA Charlotte. He’s 1-1 with a 6.32 ERA in 13 appearances (one start) over four stints with the Sox this season.
