CHICAGO _ The White Sox belted a season-high six home runs _ including one from Jose Abreu, who hit for the cycle _ and got terrific starting pitching from James Shields during a 13-1 rout of the Giants on Saturday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The win snapped a five-game skid by the Sox and evened the three-game series at 1-1 with the finale set for Sunday afternoon.
The Sox improved to 55-86 on the season while the Giants fell to 56-88.
At the plate
Abreu went 4-for-5 with three runs batted in while Tim Anderson and Yolmer Sanchez each had three hits and a homer to lead the offensive onslaught. Nicky Delmonico, Avisail Garcia and Yoan Moncada also homered.
On the mound
Shields went seven innings and gave up a run on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts to improve to 3-6 on the season.
Giants starter Jeff Samardzija lasted 5 2/3 and yielded six runs on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
In the field
Garcia made a running, sliding catch on a pop fly to right off the bat of Nick Hundley to halt a Giants rally in the top of the first inning.
