Jos Buttler gives secrets behind stunning century in England's T20 World Cup win

Jos Buttler became the first man to score a hundred in all three formats for England after striking a brilliant 101 not out in the 26-run victory over Sri Lanka at the T20 World Cup.

After a slow start which saw him reach his half-century off 45 balls, Buttler was able to tee off at the back end of the innings and smash a further 51 runs off just 22 balls.

Speaking after the win, Buttler revealed the secrets behind his outstanding knock, saying: "I think staying patient was key and keeping my head.

"I found it really tough early on but I managed to get a really good partnership with Morgs [Eoin Morgan] and we tried to attack at the back end.

"We were just trying to get something going. We were finding the spin bowlers really tricky and at one stage we thought that 120 would be a good score.

"We each tried to take the small side and target that and I really enjoyed batting with Morgs."

In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Buttler added: "I remember saying a while ago that if I could put both parts of my game together, from opening and being in the middle order, then I'd be getting in a really good place with my T20 batting.

"I back myself to catch and my death hitting is a strength. Experience helps a lot and it helps you to keep calm. It was great to have Morgs at the other end, I really enjoy batting with him."

England captain Eoin Morgan was full of praise for Buttler, describing his innings as "one of his best ever".

He said: "I am incredibly proud of everything we've done tonight. I thought the guys had to fight unbelievably hard, particularly with the ball, and probably in the first 10 overs with the bat.

"I can't fault our guys tonight. It was challenging for the guys up top tonight and I thought Jos Buttler played one of his best ever innings in an England shirt.

"It was incredible to be at the other end and to watch the ebb and flow and then sheer domination at the end.

"He is one of the best in the game and it is a privilege to play alongside him and have him in our team."
