Jos Buttler fined for foul-mouthed tirade towards Vernon Philander

England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has been fined 15% of his match fee and given one demerit point by the ICC for his foul-mouthed tirade towards South Africa's Vernon Philander.

Buttler was picked up by stump microphones referring to Philander as a "f***ing k***head" while the latter was batting during the hosts' second innings in Cape Town.

World Cup winner Buttler was upset at what he perceived to be Philander obstructing his view of the ball as he tried to field it behind the stumps.

He said: "F***ing move. F***ing k***head.”

Ben Stokes, fielding at slip, advised Buttler: "Let’s just get him out.”

To which Buttler responded: "Can’t get past that f***ing gut."

Despite their wicketkeeper getting hot under the collar, England went on to secure victory in dramatic fashion and level the series at 1-1.

After the game, skipper Joe Root said: "I don't think it was anything too serious. I don't think it will linger throughout the series - two guys playing hard Test cricket.

“At that stage in the game emotions were probably running quite high. I don't think anyone overstepped the mark and you want a bit of something to talk about, a bit of spice on the TV don't you?

“Hopefully its not a big deal and we can just get on with it.”
