Jorginho's Arsenal shirt number spotted as he's pictured in Gunners kit for first time

Arsenal appear to have completed a deal to sign the Italian international Jorginho from Chelsea, as Mikel Arteta adds some experience to his midfield.

The 31-year-old is said to be signing on an 18-month contract, and joins the Gunners at a time when they have recently lost the Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny for a number of weeks due to injury.

Ghanaian Thomas Partey also suffered a rib injury in last Friday's FA Cup fourth round defeat to Manchester City, but is not thought to be too serious.

And in a picture his agent posted online, he is seen in a Gunners strip and tracksuit bottoms which sport the No.20.

Agent Joao Santos posted the picture alongside his client to his Instagram account, with the image circulating quickly.

Jorginho is leaving Chelsea after four-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, where he moved from Napoli along with his former Naples boss Maurizio Sarri in 2018.

Seen as such a key player for Sarri, he was in the Blues side which won the Europa League in 2019 and then the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel two years later.

Jorginho played 213 times for Chelsea over four-and-a-half seasons, scoring 29 goals.

The Brazil-born midfielder holds dual nationality, and having pledged his allegiance to Italy in 2014 he has since won 46 caps and was a key player for the side which beat England in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley in July 2021.

His displays in that tournament helped him to a third-place finish in the Ballon d'Or rankings in 2021, when he was also named as UEFA's Men's Player of the Year.

He joins an Arsenal side who are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and he could make his Gunners debut in Saturday lunchtime's trip to Everton.
