Jorginho reveals what went through his mind before Chelsea's winning penalty vs Leeds

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has said he tried to do what he ‘always’ does ahead of scoring the Blues’ winning penalty against Leeds United.

The Italian had already found the net from the spot earlier in the game after Antonio Rudiger had been fouled. Lightning struck again late on as the German was felled in the penalty area during stoppage time - handing the Blues the chance to win the game.

As expected, Jorginho remained cool to tuck home his second goal of the game against the Whites and the sixth personal strike of the season.

The midfielder has suggested that there may have been more pressure to score the second time, with Illan Meslier having already faced one of his efforts, but kept himself calm to continue his excellent conversion rate from the spot.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, the Chelsea man said: “For the keeper, he has the second chance you know. You take the first one and then you have to take the second one.

“But you try to do what you always do.”

Jorginho’s thinking was certainly successful as he extended his great penalty record to 15 out of the 17 he has taken throughout his Chelsea career so far.

Despite victory, it certainly wasn’t a straight forward win for the Blues. They went down early on to Raphinha’s own spot-kick before it looked like they were going to be denied late on by Joe Gelhardt’s late strike.

Jorginho hailed the victory and the dramatic method in which the Blues secured it - especially after what had been a couple of indifferent results.

The Italian continued: “You win a game like this, last minute at home in front of your fans supporting you, so it’s amazing.

“This is football and this is why we love this sport.”
