Jorginho out of Ballon d'Or race as Thomas Tuchel told why other Chelsea star should win instead

Jorginho seemingly bolstered his case for the Ballon d'Or after netting twice in a stellar display as Chelsea waltzed past Malmo 4-0.

Andreas Christensen fired the Blues ahead with his first goal for the club after 137 appearances and eight years in the making before Jorginho doubled their lead from the spot.

Kai Havertz then extended Chelsea's lead to three with a delicately lofted chip over the on-rushing Malmo goalkeeper before Thomas Tuchel's Italian midfielder doubled his tally for the evening from the spot again to round off the Blues' four-goal demolition.

The west Londoners now sit second in Group H and just three points behind leaders Juventus as Chelsea's £50 million signing from Napoli steps up his pursuit of the 2021 golden ball ahead of d-day on November 29.

The Carefree Chelsea trio - Jai Mcintosh, Daniel Childs and Scott Clayton - delved into the prospect of Jorginho winning the Ballon d'Or and discussed whether the Italian's man of the match performance against Malmo fuelled his case for the prestigious award, live on the Chelsea Facebook page.

Mcintosh kickstarted the debate by probing as to whether Jorginho now stands in a stronger position to win the Ball0n d'Or after another dazzling display on the European stage, but Childs wasn't having any of it.

"I don't know how scoring two penalties against Malmo is going to win you the Ballon d'Or," he began. "I don't think Jorginho should win the Ballon d'Or because Robert Lewandoski is just ridiculous. I felt he should have won it last year.

"If I was to select one Chelsea player who I do think could compete with Lewandoski in terms of the level of performance, influence and how amazing they are in their position I would say N'Golo Kante.

"That doesn't mean Jorginho hasn't been brilliant, he has had the best season of his career."

Childs continued by before detailing Jorginho's performance against the Swede side, noting that it was the perfect game for the midfielder to make his start back for Chelsea since the Juventus clash.

"He looked refreshed to me," he said. "There was that concern before the international break that he didn't look fresh and needed to be taken out of the firing line.

"This was the type of game for Jorginho. Chelsea were always going to be very dominant on the ball, you need the experience in the middle of the park to dictate play and he's a very cool finisher from the spot."
