Jorginho has Premier League title warning for Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea amid Paul Scholes comments

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has demanded that he and the rest of the Blues squad stay humble 'in a good moment' amid a blistering start to the 2021/2 Premier League season.

Jorginho, 29, has had a decent start to the new campaign after returning from his summer exploits with Italy, having followed the Champions League success with Chelsea by lifting the European Championships trophy with his country.

The Italian does have it harder this season though with the increased competition that has been added into the Blues roster, with the loan signing of Saul Niguez and the re-emergence of fan favourite Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Consequently, Jorginho has only started 67% of the Premier League games that he has been able to feature in so far this season with his latest appearance against Norwich in the 7-0 thrashing coming as a result of N'Golo Kante's precautionary injury that kept him out of that specific contest.

That win against the Canaries maintained the one-point advantage that the west Londoners have over Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, who are looking relentless in their title charge after their 5-0 victory over arch-rivals Manchester United.

But with a favourable fixture list coming up over the next few weeks for the Blues, Jorginho has demanded that standards do not slip in the west London club's quest to add to their Champions League success.

"We need to keep on working in the same way that we are doing, otherwise that's not going to happen," the 29-year-old warned ahead of the Southampton Carabao Cup tie via Sky Sports.

"So, as I always say, we need to stay humble and be hungry so that we can have those results again.

"We are in a good moment now - everyone is working really hard and looking in the same direction so we are very happy because of that.

"The result is just a consequence of what we are doing, therefore we will be humble as we want more and more."

In spite of the near brilliant start to the campaign, which started off with a hard set of fixtures up till the November internationals, BT Sport pundit Paul Scholes doesn't believe the Blues will seriously be in a title race come the latter part of the season.

He cited the defence as the main worry and potential downfall for the European Champions as they seek further success under Tuchel.

Responding to a Chelsea fan on Sky Sports’ The Overlap show, Scholes said: “I also don’t think you’re [Chelsea] great defensively.”

“I think [Antonio] Rudiger’s been really good but, other than that, you’ve got Thiago Silva who’s 36 or 37, Andreas Christensen’s a young player.

“I think in the middle of the pitch you’re alright. Jorginho and [N’Golo] Kante are really good players.

“I’m just not sure that you’ll score enough goals and that you’re defensively good enough.”
