Jorginho explains change in penalty technique after sealing Chelsea win against Tottenham

Jorginho has opened up on his change of penalty technique after scoring from the spot to see off Tottenham on Thursday night.

Hearts were in mouths with Jorginho having already missed three penalties this season, all with that stuttered run-up he once swore by after amassing an incredible penalty record.

But this season, goalkeepers seem to have figured out the 29-year-old, forcing him to adapt his technique to one resembling a much more normal run-up.

When he stepped up against Spurs, with fans nervous amid his penalty record this season, everyone expected the usual hop, skip and jump, but the Italy international approached the ball without a stutter and placed the ball right into the left-bottom corner, just out of the reach of Huge Lloris.

Is Thiago Silva available for Chelsea's game at Bramall Lane?

That proved to be the winning goal as Chelsea made it back-to-back wins and after the game, Jorginho was asked about the change of technique and whether he was nervous in the seconds leading up to the spot-kick.

"I felt okay before the penalty," he told the club's official website.

"I have kept working on it, kept training, so I was feeling confident. I changed the technique because I felt that way could be better, and it worked. You saw the result."

The midfielder also spoke about how the team has adapted quickly under new boss Thomas Tuchel having seen Frank Lampard shown the exit door last month.

"The message he is giving on what he wants is clear," Jorginho added.

"We had our minds open to understand what he wanted as quick as possible because we had no time to waste.

"When you have a group of guys that is open to new ideas, to learn, to improve, and everyone with the same target, it’s easy to work. This group was humble to accept what he was coming to give to us.

"We need to keep being humble and never thinking it is enough. We haven’t done anything. When you feel comfortable it is a moment to drop. We need to stay calm, keep working hard and then the results are a consequence of what we are doing every day."
