Jorginho Chelsea contract stance revealed amid huge Graham Potter verdict and N'Golo Kante blow

Jorginho is set to prioritise signing a new contract at Chelsea amid an increasingly uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. The 30-year-old, who sees his contract with the Blues expire at the end of the season, has been heavily linked with an exit from west London recently.

The Italy international will be eligible to begin pre-contract talks with foreign clubs in January over a free transfer in the summer if he fails to pen a new deal with Chelsea. And, according to the Evening Standard, Barcelona are weighing up a move for the midfielder.

However, Jorginho's agent - Joao Santos - has clarified that his client is focused on securing a long-term future at the Blues, despite reports. Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Santos said: "We are due in June. We prioritise Chelsea and we are moving towards it. Another priority for Jorginho is to do well with the national team."

Santos was spotted in Barcelona earlier this year, fuelling speculation that a move to the Camp Nou would be on the cards. Prior to the Spanish giants' interest, Jorginho was heavily linked with a move to Juventus.

But, a move failed to materialise and Chelsea have since counted their lucky stars amid the recent waves of injuries. N'Golo Kante, who also sees his deal at Stamford Bridge expire in the summer, is one of several midfielders who have suffered knocks of late casting doubt over his own future at the club.

Availability can be the best trait for a player and, while the France international is widely seen as 'world-class', he's struggled to pick up a string of appearances. Jorginho, on the other hand, rarely picks up injuries which further strengthens Santos' case as his client reportedly looks to extend his stay in west London.

Jorginho has given a promising early verdict on new boss Potter, who has been tipped to succeed at Chelsea. The Italian said: "He’s a humble coach, but with a really good way to work.

"He has this challenge, I believe he will do very well because he has good ideas, group of players who are ready to try to do the best we can and listen to what he asks. It’s a good combination for good results."
