Jorge Mendes 'trying to tempt' Man Utd into transfer deadline day signing

Super-agent Jorge Mendes is reportedly still hopeful that Manchester United make a move for his client Bruno Fernandes, but the Old Trafford club aren't planning on a late transfer deadline-beating bid for the Portuguese midfielder.

Fernandes has been one of the most-discussed names of the transfer window, but a move has failed to materialise for the Sporting Lisbon captain.

Tottenham were said to be close to finalising an agreement for the 24-year-old, who managed 31 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions from midfield last season.

But a deal to take him to north London failed to materialise as Spurs instead opted to prioritise their efforts to do deals for Paulo Dybala, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon.

Of that trio, Lo Celso and Sessegnon look as though they could be Spurs players by the end of the day, with a deal for Dybala having been called off.

But neither Mauricio Pochettino's men or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's seem set to go back in for Fernandes, despite Mendes' best efforts.

The Manchester Evening News cite reports from three Portuguese outlets - O Jogo , A Bola and Correio da Manha - all detailing Fernandes' hopes of a move to Old Trafford and Mendes' desire to sell him.

But United are said to be unmoved their stance on the playmaker, who is looking more and more likely to still be at Sporting when the Premier League transfer window shuts at 5pm GMT on Thursday.

United fans are facing up to a disappointing deadline day, with suggestions that a deal for the experienced Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic is now off the table.

The Red Devils had previously targeted Dybala, only for his wage demands to prove too big a stumbling block.

Romelu Lukaku will complete a move from United to Inter Milan on Thursday.
