Jorge Masvidal stopped in Rome for pizza on his trip to Abu Dhabi

“Gamebred” with some gamesmanship? That’s got to be what this is.

On Monday, Jorge Masvidal departed Las Vegas on a private jet, courtesy of his First Round Management team, en route to Abu Dhabi for UFC 251, where he’ll challenge welterweight champion Kamaru Usman on Saturday.

It’s a long flight; you’re bound to get hungry. And on Tuesday, Masvidal posted two photos on Instagram – one of him at the airport in Rome followed by a second shot of him holding a slice of pizza in his mouth because, well, he “was in the mood for some pizza,” so he “made a quick stop.”

Masvidal, as you probably know, accepted the welterweight title fight without a proper training camp on just six days’ notice. You don’t think he’s actually chowing down on Roman pizza when he’s got 22 pounds to lose by Friday, do you?

The appearance that Masvidal isn’t taking this opportunity seriously is an example of some great mind games being played. He’s in a pressure situation, but it’s pretty clear that he’s cool as a cucumber heading into Saturday’s showdown on “Fight Island.”
