Jorge Masvidal responds to suggestion he fights Conor McGregor for BMF belt

Jorge Masvidal has labelled Conor McGregor 'too small and fragile' after being linked to a BMF title clash with the Irish star.

McGregor suffered a horrific broken leg injury in his latest outing to the cage against Dustin Poirier where he was defeated as a result of an opening round stoppage, handing him his third loss in four professional contests.

He has since revealed his plans to return to action either in the cage or in the boxing ring, but has called out UFC welterweight world champion Kamaru Usman, who has just defeated Masvidal with a second round stoppage in his latest fight back in April.

But after being linked with a potential mega-fight with McGregor himself, Masvidal believes that the Irishman 'is too small and fragile' for a potential bout between the pair to take place.

“I’m full man size. He’s like a very small, fragile dude,” Masvidal told MMA Junkie.

“He don’t want that. You can’t pay that man enough money, so that one’s OK. (I) don’t need it.”

“The guy that gets me the closest and the fastest to the title bout is what I want next.

“That’s what I’m going to find out in two weeks, whoever the UFC’s like, ‘Man, this guy gets you quicker than anybody else and blah, blah, blah,’ that’s it. That’s what I have to take.”

The welterweight champion Usman has also since responded to McGregor's claims that he plans to launch an assault on his world title belt, stating that he should 'stick to the likes of Khabib and Diaz'.

McGregor has received some support however as he looks to make a comeback as one of the sport's biggest stars, with Michael Bisping believing that the 33-year-old could be first in-line for a lightweight world title shot if his old rival Poirier fights the champion Charles Oliveira next.

But UFC analyst Chael Sonnen has revealed that he thinks a clash between Masvidal and McGregor would 'make sense as the American holds the BMF belt which he believes the Irishman 'qualifies for'.

“You put the BMF strap up and Conor certainly qualifies for that. You get this Poirier talk out of your mouth, it wasn’t the world’s most fun, the first, second, or third time it happened," Sonnen revealed on the Chael Sonnen Show.

“Conor’s a master of getting us involved in something. I still think there’s legs to Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidal. [It’s] the whole reason Conor McGregor ever went up to 170 pounds and he did for that night against Cowboy Cerrone.

Will McGregor ever face Masvidal? Comment below

"But the whole reason he ever went to welterweight in the first place is because Dana White made a comment that I would never put Conor in with Jorge Masvidal. “'He’s too big for him', that insulted Conor.”

“Conor has gone to 170 pounds coming after Jorge in the first place. Neither of them are headed anywhere in terms of a title run. Why not get them together? Why not let us, the fans, have a little bit of fun for a change?"

McGregor has also clamoured for a potential comeback in the boxing ring, and has called for a 'training session' with pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez and his trainer Eddy Reynoso in the future.

The UFC superstar also has been called out by YouTube sensation Jake Paul, who believes that his 'fall from grace' is 'sad' after previously calling his name as part of his 'hit-list'.
