Jorge Masvidal plans to fight Leon Edwards in March next year but could also pursue a meeting with Colby Covington if a fight with the Brit fails to materialise.
Masvidal was forced to withdraw from his planned UFC 269 meeting with Edwards in December after suffering an undisclosed injury in the build-up to their hotly-anticipated showdown.
But he is planning on returning to challenge for the title at 170lbs which is currently held by two-time rival Kamaru Usman.
Masvidal is keen to reschedule his bout with Edwards next year on his planned return date in spring, but may look to other top-five options with Covington seemingly a first choice.
He told the MMA Hour : “If [Edwards] says no, then I’m going to pass, then Colby’s b****-ass it is.

"First time I’m coming off two losses, I’ve got to make sure I go in there healthy and well to give him my all.
"If he wants to wait until February or March, I can decapitate him on site for the world to see. If he doesn’t, what can I do? We will meet eventually.
“I would like to address Leon’s bitch-ass first, and then we’ll take care of the fragile rat guy – now he’s changing his gimmick – now he’s a guy and s***.
"Usman beat his ass so hard, now he’s a nice guy. Wow, what a f****** turn of events, huh? That f****** coward.”
Masvidal has come up short against Usman twice consecutively in his last two fights, with his most recent world-title attempt ended in emphatic fashion by a second round knockout.
But the American believes he still belongs at title level having defeated the likes of Nate Diaz, Ben Askren and Darren Till on his recent ascent to challenge for the belt.
The likes of rising star Khamzat Chimaev and Nick Diaz have offered to step in to replace Masvidal at the end of this year, but the British star has effectively ruled out competing on the date after the fight fell through.

However Masvidal faced heavy criticism from many for his withdrawal including his opponent who branded him a "fraud" after the news was announced.
And Irish star Conor McGregor has broadcast his opinion on social media claiming that the welterweight star deliberately pulled out of the bout.
But Masvidal has now responded to McGregor in a brutal X-rated rant attacking the Irishman's recent defeats.
"I think he's a bitter old man, just staring at the TV all day. It sucks for him that he's broken," Masvidal continued.
"He's gotten broken so many times that he can't put himself back together, as far as fighting goes. Go have a regular life bro, be a celebrity.
"He's mad because (Leon) is signed to whatever the f*** his company is called, and they were going to collect the biggest paycheck they were ever going to collect off my ass beating Leon's ass.
"It's not going to happen anymore, so you can see the bitterness getting exposed, but he just picked the wrong dude.
"He could still get this paycheck, but this corny ass midget doesn't want to f**king tell his guy 'Yo, just wait up, and f**king fight him later and we'll still get this paycheck.'"
