Jorg Sievers confirmed as Hearts' new assistant manager as he links up with Daniel Stendel again

Hearts have confirmed the appointment of Jorg Sievers as Daniel Stendel’s new assistant manager.

The 54 year-old has left his position as goalkeeping coach at Hannover 96, where he played and worked with Stendel , to become the Jambos’ number two.

The initial plan had been to bring in one of Christ Stern or Dale Tonge, Stendel’s coaching team at previous club Barnsley.

But their contract situations with the Oakwell club remain complicated despite both having departed after Stendel was sacked, and it became increasingly unlikely that Hearts would be able to bring either of them in before the end of the season.

Andy Kirk had been temporarily promoted from the reserves to work as Stendel’s right hand man in the short term, but appointing his own assistant was always the linger term plan.

Sievers is a legend at Hannover, having spent ten years as the club’s goalkeeper and made over 350 appearances.

His finest hour came in the 1992 German Cup final, saving two penalties in the 4-3 shoot-out win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Sievers retired in 2003 and became the club’s goalkeeping coach, but has now brought his 31-year association with the club to an end in order to make the move to the Scottish Premiership .
