Jordy Nelson working on one-day deal to retire as a Packer

Former Green Bay Packers receiver Jordy Nelson told “The Dan Patrick Show” Wednesday that he’s working on a deal to retire as a Packer this offseason.

Nelson said he’s had conversations with Packers team president Mark Murphy about getting it done.

“I have talked to Mark Murphy and he’s opened up the door to come back and do the one-day deal, so we’re still working on a time to get that done. And that way I can sign a contract and retire a Packer, and end where we started,” Nelson said.

Nelson, who played last season with the Oakland Raiders, announced his retirement from the NFL last week, ending a decorated 11-year career that will eventually wind up with him in the Packers Hall of Fame.

Nelson said the Packers did not show any interest after the Raiders released him. He did receive interest from the Seattle Seahawks and the Raiders (at a cheaper price) but eventually decided to retire, citing an unwillingness to move his family to another city and the fact he’s leaving the game with his health intact.

Last season, Nelson caught 63 passes for 739 yards and three touchdowns with the Raiders.

Nelson exited Green Bay ranked third in team history in catches (550), fifth in receiving yards (7,848) and second in touchdown catches (69).

While Nelson didn’t rule out re-joining the Packers later this summer if his former team had the need and Aaron Rodgers made the call, he said he wasn’t expecting the reunion to happen.
