Jordi Alba signs new five-year Barcelona contract to see out career at Camp Nou

Barcelona have handed a new contract to left-back Jordi Alba which will run until 2024 to effectively end the player's career at Camp Nou.

The defender’s previous deal was set to expire in 2020 and negotiations between player and club have been going on for some time.

Alba, who has played 282 games for Barca since signing from Valencia in 2012, has been handed a €500 million (£428m) release clause as part of the new contract.

The Spanish international will be 30 years old in March and this new agreement means he is likely to finish his career at Camp Nou, having started out as youth player at La Masia.

In their statement, Barca announced that the contract signing will take place in an official event in the coming days.

Alba has won 14 trophies with the Blaugrana and recently featured in his 200th win for the club in the 6-1 victory over Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.
