Jordanhill Campus still ablaze 17 hours after fire broke out at former university building

Fire crews are still tackling a huge blaze at Jordanhill College in the west end of Glasgow this morning.

Three appliances remain on the scene at the derelict building on Southbrae Drive after the fire broke out at around 4pm yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters have been attempting to extinguish the blaze for around 17 hours after plumes of black smoke spread across the city during the day yesterday.

Thankfully the inferno is under control, however fire crews are expected to remain on the scene for the course of the day.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are still on the scene this morning and still fire fighting.

"We are expected to remain on the scene for the majority of the day."

Strathclyde University left the campus – which was used for teacher training – in 2012 and moved to the John Anderson Campus in the city centre. The site includes the Grade B listed David Stow building.

The burning building was in the process of being redeveloped into more than 400 flats of up to five bedrooms, and costing between £246,500 and £625,000.
