BOSTON _ Jordan Zimmermann's struggles continued on Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox.
Zimmermann was battered in a 7-3 loss, lasting only three innings and leaving scouts in attendance wondering what happened to the right-hander who was dealing earlier in the season.
Zimmermann nibbled around the strike zone and yet still left too many pitches over the middle of the plate. He allowed five runs on five hits, walked three and struck out two.
Rookie Michael Chavis hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning for the Red Sox, but the Tigers responded with three quick runs in the third to take the lead.
That lead was short-lived, however, after Boston scored three more times in the bottom of the inning on a J.D. Martinez RBI single and a Rafael Devers two-run double.
The Tigers' bullpen allowed two runs in five innings the rest of the way, but the offense did not score again.
Former Tiger Rick Porcello picked up the win, allowing three runs in six innings.
With the loss, the Tigers fall back to the .500 mark, at 12-12.
