Jordan Urges Restraint Amid Regional Tensions

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken returns to Washington, following a week-long trip aimed at calming tensions across the Middle East

The Jordanian government has issued a statement appealing for all parties involved to exercise restraint and handle regional tensions with discipline and responsibility in the wake of Iran's recent attack on Israel. The call for calm comes after an overnight attack by Iran, prompting concerns about escalating tensions in the region.

During a cabinet session chaired by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Jordanian officials emphasized the importance of de-escalation and urged all parties to act responsibly. The government highlighted the need for utmost self-restraint and stressed the significance of addressing the risks and repercussions of regional escalation on international peace and security.

The government reassured the public that Jordan is functioning normally, with public services, education, and healthcare facilities operating smoothly. Additionally, the government reiterated its support for the Jordanian Armed Forces in safeguarding the country's security.

Residents in Amman reported witnessing activity in the skies over the capital early Sunday morning, leading to panic among the population. The cabinet confirmed that it had intercepted foreign objects in Jordanian airspace to protect citizens and residential areas. While some fragments fell in various locations, no significant damage or injuries were reported.

The government also mentioned that the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) is continuously evaluating the situation after temporarily closing Jordanian airspace on Sunday. The authorities are closely monitoring developments to ensure the safety and security of the country and its citizens.
