The Jordanian Public Security seized half-ton of hashish and nearly two million narcotic pills after a raid on drug smugglers’ and dealers’ hideout in the al-Hallabat region.

The Public Security Directorate confirmed that it is continuing its intensive qualitative operations to hit drug dens in the largest raid carried out since the new phase targeting drug dealers.

A spokesman for the Public Security Directorate stated that a security force of anti-narcotics agents and police commandos raided a farm in the al-Hallabat area, 25 kilometers northeast of Zarqa Governorate.

The statement confirmed that the raid was carried out after receiving intelligence that a group of drug dealers and smugglers were hiding there to evade a security campaign already underway in the al-Ruwaished area.

The smugglers attempted to flee and load narcotics into their vehicles, but they were pursued, and the rules of engagement were applied after they fired shots at the police agents.

He indicated that after the clash, the security forces captured three suspects, injuring two of them, one with a bullet and the other due to his vehicle being damaged during the chase, while none of the officers were injured.

The spokesman added that when the seized vehicles were searched, a large haul of narcotics was found, estimated at half a ton of hashish, and nearly two million narcotic pills, in addition to an automatic firearm.

Investigations were launched to identify and arrest all the persons involved in the case.

The Public Security Directorate announced earlier this week that it launched specific operations in the northeastern regions of Jordan, which are believed to be one of the hot spots in the drug trade, where drug dealers and outlaws hide.

Gendarmerie forces, the Royal Badia Police Command, and the Anti-Narcotics Department, in cooperation with the relevant security directorates and departments, participated in the operation.

On Sunday, the Jordanian security services arrested Amman’s most wanted cocaine promoter.

The man was arrested after a search of his car in Amman and produced an unknown quantity of cocaine, 1kg of Hashish, and 2,000 narcotic pills.

Authorities also arrested a group of people on a farm in Karak governorate after information about their hideout, which was used for drugs, noting that they were preparing to smuggle the drugs outside the country.
