Jordan’s King Abdullah II reaffirmed on Monday his country’s stand in solidarity with Saudi Arabia in light of the recent attacks against the Kingdom’s oil installations.
In an exclusive interview with MSNBC, King Abdullah stressed the deep and exceptional relationship shared with Saudi Arabia, confirming commitment to the Kingdom’s security and defense.
“We have an outstanding relationship with the Saudis and we are committed to their defense,” he said.
The monarch, who is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, told MSNBC veteran journalist Andrea Mitchel that in the past six months “if not more” many countries, including Jordan, “have been trying to caution escalation and calm things down.”
As to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, King Abdullah stressed the need to join international efforts to reject all unilateral measures that would undermine the two-state solution, under which an independent Palestinian state would be established on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Addressing the UN General Assembly, he stressed that the continuation of the Israeli occupation is a "global moral tragedy."
Delivering Jordan’s address at the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, he said “no occupation, no displacements, no acts of force, can erase people's history, hopes, or rights, or change the true heritage of shared values among the three monotheistic faiths.”
“The two-state solution is the only genuine solution. Because, what is the alternative? One state, segregated, with unequal laws, dependent on force, betraying the deepest values of the good people on both sides? That is a formula for enduring conflict, not a path to stability, security and peace,” he added.
“Today, we still urgently need each and every member country to act — to act together with our global neighbors and achieve the better, safer world all of us need,” the King noted.
