Jordan Larmour and Harry Byrne in contention to make Leinster returns against Ulster

Jordan Larmour and Harry Byrne could come into selection contention for Leinster's crunch PRO14 clash with Ulster at the RDS on Friday night.

Larmour hasn't featured for the province or for Ireland since suffering a dislocated shoulder in Leinster's win over Benetton in early October.

The versatile back three player has returned to training but it remains to be seen if Leo Cullen will throw him straight back into the action in such a vital game for the Blues following their defeat to Connacht at the RDS last Saturday night.

Young out-half Byrne, meanwhile, is due to return to training this week in a timely boost to Cullen, who could well be without Johnny Sexton as he follows the return to play protocols.

Sexton failed to return after undergoing a HIA midway through the first half last Saturday, and Scott Penny is similarly following return to play protocols.

Backline duo Jimmy O'Brien and Rory O'Loughlin both suffered shoulder injuries in the surprise loss but haven't been ruled out for this week.

Similarly Ciaran Frawley, who was due to line out at no 10 against Connacht before a minor hamstring issue ruled him out, could yet feature this weekend.

Josh Murphy was also a late withdrawal from the matchday squad with a minor calf problem and he will be further assessed.

Cullen at least will definitely have Ed Byrne, Jack Conan and Rhy Ruddock available. Byrne capped his return after a calf injury with a potentially vital last minute try for a bonus point last weekend.

Conan came through his first game back after a neck injury with no issues, while fellow back rower Ruddock has recovered from a rib injury that brought a halt to an impressive run of form and he is in the selection mix.

There is no further fitness update on Garry Ringrose and James Lowe, who are in a race against time for next week's return to Champions Cup action against Northampton Saints.
