Rangers loanee Jordan Jones was left "gutted" as he was left out of the Sunderland squad for their EFL trophy final against Tranmere Rovers.
The winger joined the Black Cats on loan in January and has put in some impressive performances, scoring in a 2-0 win at Portsmouth earlier this month.
But the Northern Ireland international has picked up a knock and has even been deemed fit enough for the bench at Wembley.
Jones wrote on Twitter: "Gutted beyond words to be missing this but here supporting the boys and can’t wait till we bring this trophy home. HAWAY the lads."
The winger had a late fitness test as he raced to be fit for the final but wasn't deemed fit enough to be involved.
Sunderland boss Lee Johnson explained on Friday: "Aiden O'Brien will have a fitness test on Saturday.
"We'll give him as long as possible.
"Jordan Jones is similar and we're not sure if he'll be available, he's going to have a fitness test.
"I'd say he's probably less likely to be available than Aiden."
