Jordan Jones set for Sunderland as Rangers outcast joins League One title chase

Rangers winger Jordan Jones is set to join Sunderland on-loan for the rest of the season.

The Premiership leaders have agreed a deal with the League One promotion chasers.

The move is now subject to the 26-year-old passing a medical before he makes the switch for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign.

Jones, who grew up in the north-east and came through at Middlesbrough, had options in Scotland but preferred a move south of the border.

Black Cats boss Lee Johnson, who is also interested in Ross County striker Ross Stewart, has won the fight to land the Rangers wide man.

Jones has hardly played this season and fell even further out of favour after he broke Covid-19 rules by attending a party along with defender George Edmundson.

They have both since returned to training with Gerrard's first team but were made available for loan in this window.

Edmundson is attracting interest but he is still getting back to full fitness after minor surgery.

Sunderland have also asked about about Ross County striker Stewart.

County owner Roy MacGregor, however, has told them that their striker is not for sale in this window.

MK Dons have already had a six-figure bid turned down while there remains interest from Aberdeen and Dundee United on a pre-contract for Stewart.
