Jordan Jones next on Wigan Athletic's hit list after Sunderland spell

Jordan Jones looks set to be the latest former Sunderland player to link up with League One rivals Wigan Athletic.

The Latics have already brought former Black Cats skipper Max Power back to the DW Stadium, and snatched Charlie Wyke from under the Wearsiders' nose despite Sunderland offering him a new deal.

Wigan struggled in the league last season after a number of problems off the field, but following on from a takeover, they're spending big in an attempt to get back to the Championship.

The Latics are also growing confident ahead of a proposed move for Sunderland's Bailey Wright.

Now, The Daily Record claims that the Latics are keen on adding Jones to their squad ahead of the new season.

The Middlesbrough born winger, has attracted interest from across the Championship and League One following on from his loan spell with Sunderland last season.

He made 20 appearances for Lee Johnson's side scoring three times after falling out of favour with Steven Gerrard at parent club Rangers.

Jones was linked with a potential return to Wearside early on in the transfer window, but he looks set to move elsewhere this summer.

It's unclear at this stage whether the Latics are eying a loan move for the 26-year-old or a permanent deal.

The Gers are believed to have set a cut price tag for the winger, who has struggled for game time after breaching Covid-19 regulations in 2020.
