Jordan Jones makes Rangers return as strong reserve team plays Brentford

Rangers winger Jordan Jones could be set for a return to the first team this weekend after being handed a reserve team start.

The Northern Ireland international has been out of action since being sent off and injured in the 2-0 defeat to Celtic back in September.

The 25-year-old isn't included in the Europa League squad so can't play against Young Boys but could return against Motherwell on Sunday.

He returned to training in recent weeks and has been named as part of a very strong reserve team to face Brentford.

Jones is one of seven first team players in the squad alongside Andy King, Jamie Murphy, Greg Stewart, Greg Docherty and youngsters Lewis Mayo and Jamie Barjonas.

It's a chance for the players to get some match fitness ahead of a big end to the year for Steven Gerrard's men.

Stewart is the only one of the first team players who has made any top team appearances recently when he grabbed a double as a sub against Hearts.

King hasn't played since September, Murphy last made an appearance in October while Docherty hasn't kicked a ball for Rangers since August.

Barjonas and Mayo have been regulars for the reserve but haven't played for the first team since pre-season.

Also included in the team is highly-rated teenage right back Nathan Patterson while Dapo Mebude is on the bench.

Rangers ran out 4-0 winners thanks to an own goal, a Greg Stewart penalty and a goal each from Rhys Breen and Dapo Mebude.
