Jordan Jones eyes Rangers redemption as he opens up on the Celtic memory that still haunts him

Jordan Jones admits he’d relish the chance to banish his Old Firm nightmare across the city this weekend.

The Rangers winger was sent off in his first taste of the fixture, having only been thrown on as a sub with 20 minutes left of last September’s 2-0 defeat.

Not only did the horror tackle on Moritz Bauer prompt an injury-time red and infuriate boss Steven Gerrard, the Northern Ireland ace injured himself and didn’t play for another four-and-a-half months.

Jones looked to be on his way out of Ibrox in the summer but has returned to the team this season and impressed with some sparkling performances.

And the 25-year-old is desperate to continue that form at Celtic Park in the first Old Firm showdown of the season on Saturday.

He said: “I’d love to be involved. Obviously my last Old Firm wasn’t the best memory so I’d really like an opportunity to change that experience and change it into a positive one.

“We have to see what happens.”

Team-mate Steven Davis, who became the UK’s most-capped outfield player after making his 121st appearance for Northern Ireland in Monday’s 1-0 loss to Austria, is not expected to play the full Nations League clash against Norway in Oslo this evening.

Quizzed on whether he will start his third international in seven days, the Ibrox midfielder said: “I’ll leave that up to the management team to make that decision.

“I think if you go over the course of the season I’m not going to play 60 games and at times you make that decision. But in terms of how I feel, I feel good.

“I felt good after playing extra-time in Bosnia last week and I felt good for the Austria match as well.

“Of course, whenever you’re away with Northern Ireland you always want to play.

“Maybe as you get older you should think about that a little bit more. But every game you’re involved in, you want to play - there’s no doubt about that.”
