Jordan Jones apologised to Moritz Bauer following red-card tackle

Jordan Jones apologised to Celtic defender Moritz Bauer for the reckless tackle that saw the Rangers winger red-carded in Sunday's Old Firm, according to former teammate Gary Dicker.

Old Kilmarnock pal Dicker told BBC Sportsound that Northern Ireland international Jones has said sorry for the challenge.

Jones lunged at the new Celtic signing, injuring himself in the process after coming on as a substitute in his side's 2-0 home defeat to their biggest rivals.

The 24-year-old's actions were blasted by Gers boss Steven Gerrard who condemned Jones for trying to appease the club's fans in completely the wrong way.

Jones left Ibrox on crutches and was subsequently ruled out of Northern Ireland's double-header with Luxembourg and Germany, giving international boss Michael O'Neill a late headache ahead of the two games.

It is believed Jones could be back sooner than expected , though, and could yet feature in next month's game against the Netherlands on October 10.

Doctors have now confirmed the 24-year-old suffered only a minor medial ligament tear which means he is set for a far more speedy return.

Dicker said: "I spoke to him earlier. It can be a lonely place.

"Everyone's telling you what you should have and shouldn't have done.

"He spoke to the right-back at Celtic and apologised.

"You’ve just got to learn from it and use it.

"I think he was pretty down at first, which is natural after the game.

"Hopefully the results (from the scan) come in and it's not as serious as he might think it is."
