Jordan Jones and Rangers youth in Northern Ireland tactical twist as Ian Baraclough makes full use of new rule

Rangers winger Jordan Jones won his 10th cap as a substitute for Northern Ireland as they beat Bosnia & Herzegovina - but an innovative tactical tweak saw him taken back off.

Ian Baraclough 's side took on Bosnia in their Nations League play-off match and triumphed on penalties to set up a clash with Slovakia.

The visitors fell behind early on when a Jonny Evans slip proved costly.

As the Leicester man stumbled, Branimir Cipetic took his chance to pull the ball back for Rade Krunic to fire in.

Aberdeen's Niall McGinn equalised in the second half, chasing down a ball into the box, nicking it away from Cipetic, beating Sanicanin, and then firing past Sehic to level.

Baraclough sent on Rangers winger Jones after 82 minutes but as the game wound its way toward penalties the manager took full advantage of the five substitute rule.

The Northern Ireland boss made two changes in the 120th minute, subbing two of his substitutes.

Jones was replaced by Connor Washington while former Rangers and Livingston man Jordan Thompson went off for Liam Boyce having only come on in the 93rd minute.

Baraclough came up trumps though as his side won 4-3 on penalties - with Boyce and Washington scoring the final two.
