Jordan Henderson speaks out on what cost Liverpool in defeat to Napoli in Champions League

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has highlighted the one area which let side down in their defeat to Napoli.

The Reds had arguably the better of an open opening 45 minutes with Roberto Firmino going closest to opening the scoring at the San Paolo Stadium.

But the game was turned on its head with eight minutes reaming when referee Felix Brych awarded the hosts a dubious looking penalty following a challenge by Andy Robertson's on Dries Mertens, who picked himself up to squeeze the spot-kick past Adrian.

Former Spurs striker Fernando Llorente then made it 2-0 two minutes into stoppage time after seizing on a rare loose ball from Virgil Van Dijk to slot home from close range.

"First half, I still felt we played some good stuff. It was just that final bit that we were missing today," Henderson told BT Sport post-match.

"At home, Napoli are a good side. They are going to create some chances and you’ve got to be prepared to defend as a team, which I think we did.

"We won some great balls in midfield and counter attacked really well.

"But it’s just that last little bit - and, obviously, the mistakes for the goals - we need to improve on.

"But overall, we can be better, of course.

"We’ll take responsibility, we’ll move forward and try and react in the right way."
