Jordan Henderson speaks for first time after Liverpool surgery confirmed

Jordan Henderson has spoken for the first time after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.

The Liverpool captain limped off in the first half in last weekend's Merseyside derby defeat to Everton, and has been ruled out by the Reds until at least after the March international break.

Now set to undergo rehabilitation, April is looking the best-case scenario for a return at this time with the 30-year-old set to return in time for the final weeks of the season.

Henderson's lay-off means he is Jurgen Klopp's fifth senior centre-back option currently sidelined, alongside Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho, and comes out with the out-of-form Reds facing a battle just to finish in the top four.

But the Liverpool captain took to Twitter as he vowed to do all he can to help his team-mates while working on his recovery.

"Obviously gutted to have picked up an injury," he wrote. "But will do everything I can to support the team while working on my rehab."

Klopp's side take to the field for the first time without Henderson on Sunday when they travel to Sheffield United.
