Jordan Henderson sets record straight about Thiago Alcantara criticism at Liverpool

Jordan Henderson has sounded emphatic backing of Thiago Alcantara and fully expects the midfielder to be a success at Liverpool.

Thiago has suffered a difficult time since arriving from Bayern Munich for an initial £20million last September.

The Spain international was sidelined for more than two months shortly afterwards with a knee problem and has subsequently struggled to regain top form with Liverpool on a poor run of results.

Nevertheless, Thiago is likely to make his Champions League debut for his new club in the round of 16 first leg in Budapest against RB Leipzig, opposition he has vast experience of facing during his time in the Bundesliga.

And Henderson is confident the 29-year-old will soon show why the Premier League champions swooped for his services.

"Thiago has been brilliant since he came to the club," said the Liverpool skipper. "Everybody knows how good a player he is, he is a world class player.

"Even off the field, he is a really good person, leads by example and gives everything. You learn a lot from him.

"He has been a fantastic addition to the squad.

"He will probably know Leipzig better than anyone and I am sure he will tell us one or two things over the next 24 hours.

"He has settled in really well, like I knew he would. He is a phenomenal player.

"Hopefully he can keep improving each time he plays for us and getting used to the way that we play as a team."
